Stephen Brook, Vincenzo Arnese, Sara Bachiorri write:  Plum and cherry aromas are ripe and rich with intense fruitiness. Sleek attack, quite concentrated and assertive, but not overbearing with black fruit flavours. Ripe plum and dark cherry integrate with persistent tannin…  Drinking 2023 - 2032.  - Decanter 92

Monica Larner writes:  The G.D. Vajra 2022 Barbera d'Alba is a nicely concentrated effort with dark cherry fruit, blackberry and cinnamon-like sensations from the grape skins. With that extra density comes extra fruit weight and a powerful 15% alcohol content. The wine does carry muscle for sure, but the results are firm and tight.

The most interesting portfolio of wines from Piedmont, in my onion, is the one thoughtfully put together by G.D. Vajra. Given the variety of flavors and the many local grapes used, my annual tasting at this estate is always one of my favorites. This year I tasted with Isidoro Vaira, one of three siblings that runs the winery with sister Francesca and brother Giuseppe. Parents Milena and Aldo Vaira are also busily involved at the winery, making this a dynamic, family-run reality.

Jancis Robinson writes:  Sumptuous nose. Fresh and yet full of fruit. Simple but fairly glorious.  Drinking 2023 - 2026.  - Jancis Robinson 16.5

Tank-fermented. 15 days’ maceration. Malo in tank. Maybe just a little oak. The Vajras say that the beauty of global warming is that Barbera’s high acid is being reduced. Final blend is of various different vineyards from Serralunga, Novello and Barolo.

Antonio Galloni writes:  The 2022 Barbera d'Alba is a very pretty, understated wine. Crushed flowers, sweet red berry fruit, cinnamon and orange peel are all laced together. In 2022, the Barbera is attractive but also a bit quiet.  - Vinous

G.D. Vajra Barbera d'Alba comes from a wonderful range of estate vineyards. It is fermented for an average of 20 days and ages no less than twelve months, in respect of the rhythm of nature. This is a fine blend, a charming wine, rich yet forward.

Monica Larner writes: Here’s another food-friendly wine from beautiful Piedmont. The 2021 Barbera d'Alba shows a dark purplish hue and saturated fruit flavors of dried blackberry and black cherry. There are hints of crushed mineral or oyster shell as well. The wine’s medium thickness would work across a breaded veal steak. Fruit is sourced across various sites with different soil types. Drinking 2022 - 2026. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 91 Points

Antonio Galloni writes: the 2021 Barbera d'Alba is soft, fruity and very easy to like. Crushed rose petal, sweet red berries, cinnamon, orange peel and mint are all very nicely lifted. This understated, supple Barbera is a winner. VINOUS
