It offers a pure, medium to full-bodied, incredibly elegant style as well as tons of minerality in its red and black fruits, ripe, building tannins, nicely integrated acidity, and just a kiss of background oak. The 2022 vintage delivers yet another bewitching blend with trademark Pessimist flair. An intensely aromatic nose begins with fragrances of blueberry, boysenberry and black plum. Deeper layers reveal lavender, truffle, cocoa and tamarind spice with hints of cherry pipe tobacco, leather, mint and smoked meats. A bright, vibrant palate offers generous flavors of black cherry, cranberry, crème de cassis and pomegranate. Notes of lilac, anise and black olive complement the rich fruit while the mouth is flooded with lush, silky textures. Lingering accents of blueberry and raspberry round out this elegantly balanced wine.

Producer Description
From the warm (even by today’s standards) 2019 growing season comes this masterful Vouvray Extra-Brut, which spent four full years on its lees, and to which Philippe and Vincent applied a mere 1.33 grams-per-liter dosage—their lowest ever.
Philippe prefers a small dosage to none, as he states that it improves the wine’s capacity to age, and he and Vincent employ rigorous double-blind dosage trials to determine the final amount.
With its low-for-Vouvray acidity and its full malolactic fermentation (rare for Foreau), this wine benefits from its modest dosage, as it maintains taut acidity and clings mightily to the palate as its notes of truffle, candied lemon, and lanolin echo far into the distance.

Winemaker Description
2022 was a near ideal vintage for Sauvignon Blanc. Along with Yakima Valley, this is our first vintage sourcing several Sauvignon Blanc clones from Horse Heaven Hills, and represents our latest harvest date on record for our Columbia Valley Sauvignon Blanc. The new winemaking team worked with our vineyard managers to update our viticultural practices, reducing yields (on average) by 30% for each site.
All three vineyard sites were picked in the early morning light on October 7th, 2022. Upon arriving at the winery, the grapes were whole cluster pressed under a blanket of protective CO2 and the juice was delivered into tank. It was then cold settled for 24 hours before being fermented in 100% stainless steel tanks. Fermentation techniques were selected individually for each vineyard to help accentuate the fruit and typicity from each location. Primary fermentation was slow and cool, allowing the wine to hold onto its intense aromatic profile. Aged in stainless steel and small parts neutral oak for 5 months. Secondary fermentation was arrested to preserve freshness and acidity and the wine was blended shortly before bottling. The wine was bottled on March 28th, 2023. Only 4510 cases were made.
Two separate clones were included in the final blend (Sauvignon Blanc: 1, Gist).
The 2022 Matthews Columbia Valley Sauvignon Blanc is yellow jasmine in color with flecks of green. Intense aromatics of starfruit, lemony sorrel leaf, juicy green pear and mandarin orange open to honeysuckle and linden flower. Followed by flavors of lemon curd, oyster shell, candied orange peel and flint, this medium bodied, balanced wine has refreshing acidity. It finishes long with briney and stoney flavors that are taught and textural.
