Producer & Terroir
Founded in 1825 in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Domaine Faiveley brings generations of Burgundian experience to this old-vine Gevrey-Chambertin. Erwan Faiveley and Technical Director Jérôme Flous combine traditional craftsmanship with precise vineyard management, emphasizing purity, balance and vineyard character.
Vieilles Vignes, meaning "old vines," brings together approximately 20 parcels covering nearly 10 hectares in Gevrey-Chambertin. The vines average more than 45 years of age, with some planted as early as 1945. Limestone and clay-rich soils provide the setting for a Pinot Noir with concentrated fruit, structure and savory complexity.
Winemaker Description
A magnificent expression of old-vine Pinot Noir from one of Burgundy's most celebrated villages, Domaine Faiveley Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 2022 combines impressive concentration, refined structure and the unmistakable elegance of the Côte de Nuits.
Deep ruby-red in color, this beautifully crafted Burgundy opens with expressive aromas of black cherries, ripe raspberries and wild blackberries, accented by subtle notes of earth, spice and woodland undergrowth.
On the palate, concentrated dark fruit meets fine, powdery tannins and refreshing acidity. Rich and structured yet beautifully balanced, the wine reveals layers of ripe berries, delicate oak spice and savory mineral nuances, leading to a long, precise and elegant finish.
A classic Gevrey-Chambertin that offers generous fruit and immediate appeal while possessing the depth and structure for rewarding cellaring.
Expert Review
Wine Spectator, 91 Points: An intensely flavored red, featuring cherry, raspberry, boysenberry and earth flavors. Firm, with a light dusting of powdery tannins on the well-defined finish. Best from 2027 through 2038. 433 cases imported.
Winemaking & Aging
Hand-harvested grapes are meticulously sorted before carefully managed fermentation and maceration. Approximately 14 months in French oak barrels, with 20–30% new oak, adds subtle spice and texture while preserving the character of the old-vine fruit.
Pairing & Serving
Pair with beef bourguignon, roasted duck breast, filet mignon, grilled lamb or venison. Wild mushroom risotto, slow-braised short ribs and mature French cheeses also complement its depth and savory notes. Serve at 57–61°F (14–16°C). Wine Spectator recommends drinking from 2027 through 2038.
