Vinous 88 Points | The 2022 Barbera d'Asti Ca' di Pian is a bold, juicy Barbera to drink now and over the next handful of years. Blackberry, chocolate, lavender, licorice and dried herbs are front and center. The 2022 is just a bit green, but it's hard to argue with quality at this price point

Cà di Pian is a Barbera with an unmistakable character. There are intense aromas of blackberry and morello cherries. This wine is truly captivating, yet it remains fresh and extremely versatile.

This wine's ripe, dark-skinned fruit, culinary spice and new leather scents lead the way, along with a menthol note. The firmly structured, chewy palate offers dried Morello cherry, raspberry jam, licorice and espresso flavors alongside fine-grained tannins. Pair with pasta and beans, risotto with porcini mushrooms, chicken chasseur.

Bart Hopkins of 67Wine.com writes | Wines made from the Barbera grape can often sit in the shadow of Barolo and Barbaresco, which is a shame because Barbera can be the source of seriously good wines. Food friendly Barbera can cover a range of stylistic profiles, from cheap and cheerful to elegant dining, and when taken up several notches, such as the The 2022 Barbera d’Alba Superiore from La Ganghija,  it’s not only seriously good, it’s seriously delicious! Darkly colored with a lush, intense bouquet of crushed cherries, baking spices, vanilla and a touch of savory oak. Round and juicy in the mouth with a lovely intensity of flavor, harmonious balance and multilayered complexity that leads to a long and luscious finish. With excellent structure, character and mouth presence, this is Barbera at its very best, and true to its form, will deliciously complement almost anything at the table.

The G.B. Burlotto  winery was born in Verduno, a historic commune in Barolo, 170 years ago. Many things have changed since then, but not the basic ideals that have always guided us, to instill in our wines the soul and natural attributes of each place of origin, and every vine. Our winery carries the name of its founder, Giovan Battista Burlotto, and despite being housed in an 18th century building, it was founded in 1850, with a specific homeland: Verduno, historic village for the production of Barolo. On the facade of the winery one finds 32 medals with symbols and dates which document the pioneering production and commercial activities of the winery, as well as the notoriety in Italy of its wine during the 19th and 20th centuries.

The Barbera d'Alba is “the” young red for Piedmontese cuisine, a region to which it seems to naturally belong. Its zeal, in fact, has no frills or trappings: it referees the game of the meal with the purest spirit of service, staying on the sidelines as much as possible. In the end, however, we celebrate Barbera thankfully, always an honest wine at the table.

The Frasca family has 22 hectares of vineyard in Nizza, with vines averaging 30 years of age. Their 2020 Barbera Nizza DOCG opens with an inviting bouquet of dark cherries, blackberries, and plums, intertwined with notes of violet, tobacco, and a hint of vanilla. On the palate, it is full-bodied and rich, showcasing intense flavors of ripe black fruits, licorice, and a touch of dark chocolate, balanced by firm tannins and vibrant acidity.
