Producer Notes
Koonunga Hill is one of Penfolds’ most beloved and enduring wines — a benchmark for approachable, everyday Australian red. The Shiraz brings plenty of dark fruit while the Cabernet Sauvignon adds cool, lifted aromatics. Deep crimson with red brick hues, the nose reveals preserved plums, fresh mulberry, cherry compote, milk chocolate, baking spices, fresh bay leaf, white pepper, and licorice. The palate is succulent with refreshing acidity and subtle tannins. Ripe red fruits offer richness on the mid-palate, with dark cherry, pomegranate, and cranberry. A savory, umami edge adds complexity. Softly textured, medium-bodied, and very approachable.

Crimson red with red brick core. A swirl of the glass reveals lifted red fruits, cherries, summer berries and plums. Varietal tones shine through, with blackberry and mulberry leaf indicative of the cabernet inclusion. Black pepper and sweet middle eastern spices provide intrigue. Well-integrated sweet oak is reminiscent of panforte and praline. Chargrilled beetroot offers a savoury counterweight, ably supported by notes or well-worn chesterfield leather. The exotic notes flow from nose to palate. Blackberry, plum and cherry provide a sweet core. Flavours from the bakery include biscotti and red velvet cake. Mocha, spice and coffee round out a soft, silken palate. Fine lacy tannins hold everything together with a long, vibrant finish.
