La Spinetta is one of Piedmont’s most celebrated estates, founded by Giorgio Rivetti in Castagnole delle Lanze. Rivetti is widely credited with modernizing Barbera d’Asti — bringing precision viticulture, organic farming, and meticulous cellar work to a variety long underestimated in the region. Ca’ di Pian, sourced from Castagnole delle Lanze and Costigliole d’Asti, is La Spinetta’s entry-level Barbera — yet it consistently punches well above its price, earning critical acclaim vintage after vintage. The estate farms entirely without synthetic pesticides or herbicides, expressing the purest possible fruit from its Piedmontese terroir.
The 2023 is soft, supple, and immediately captivating. A burst of blueberry, black cherry, morello cherry, spice, lavender, menthol, and chocolate gives the wine tremendous appeal and versatility. Fresh, fruit-forward, and beautifully balanced — an especially fine edition of this beloved cuvée.

Cà di Pian is a Barbera with an unmistakable character. There are intense aromas of blackberry and morello cherries. This wine is truly captivating, yet it remains fresh and extremely versatile.

Blackberry, chocolate, lavender, licorice and dried herbs are front and center. The 2022 is just a bit green, but it's hard to argue with quality at this price point
(Vintage 2020) Antonio Galloni writes: The 2020 Barbera d'Asti Ca' di Pian is a tasty entry-level offering from La Spinetta. A move towards greater freshness comes through in a Barbera with pretty, floral aromatics and mid-weight structure. Silky tannins wrap around a core of blue fruits, spice, lavender and menthol.
