Badia a Coltibuono Chianti Classico Estate Organic — Tuscany 2022
Badia a Coltibuono is one of Chianti Classico's most storied estates, with roots stretching back to an 11th-century monastery in Gaiole. Farmed organically and guided by a deep respect for the land, their Estate Chianti Classico is a benchmark expression of Sangiovese — honest, structured, and unmistakably Tuscan. The 2022 vintage delivered excellent concentration with the freshness that defines the appellation at its best.
The wine pours a bright ruby with violet highlights. The nose is layered and inviting: iris, violet, tobacco, black pepper, and marasca cherry. On the palate, it is well-balanced and tightly knit, with crunchy, powdery tannins, juicy acidity, and a clean mineral backbone. The finish is warm and persistent — a wine that rewards both the dinner table and the cellar.
"Aromas of red and dark berries, chocolate, dried flowers and spices, following through to a medium body with crunchy, powdery tannins and juicy acidity. Tense and flavorful with good concentration." — James Suckling, 92 Points

Respect for biodiversity, for the health of the workers and for the environment are the cornerstones from which Badia a Coltibuono Chianti Classico is born. In the heart of the Sienese part of Chianti Classico, from our vineyards in Monti (Gaiole) and Vitignano (Castelnuovo Berardenga) we harvest Sangiovese grapes from our massale selection with small quantities of complementary grapes. The vinification takes place with spontaneous yeasts in the modern cellar of Monti using delicate techniques to maximize the expression of the complexity and balance of these grapes. A wine with a strong but gentle structure that is the expression of Sangiovese and its pleasantness. For its long history and its consistency over time it is considered one of the reference points of the denomination.
Antonio Galloni writes: The 2021 Chianti Classico is terrific. Bright and vibrant, with tons of Sangiovese character, the 2021 is everything Chianti Classico should be. Bright red cherry fruit, blood orange, mint, spice and tobacco are all nicely amplified in this juicy, wonderfully inviting Chianti Classico. The 2021 is one of the best edition of this wine I have tasted recently. Drinking 2023 - 2031. - Vinous 91
Monica Larner writes: This is an organic blend of Tuscan native grapes with 90% Sangiovese and tiny percentages of Canaiolo, Ciliegiolo and Colorino. Representing a big production of 147,000 bottles, the 2021 Chianti Classico is accessible and easy-drinking with mild cherry and dried raspberry followed by almond, blue flower and peat moss. Winemaking is very simple, starting off with spontaneous yeast fermentation and brief aging in large oak casks. You get great value, especially in this classic vintage. Drinking 2023 - 2026. - Robert Parker Wine Advocate 90
Audrey Frick writes: A youthful ruby/magenta, the 2021 Chianti Classico is pure, ripe, and inviting with aromas of cherry liqueur, candied roses, and fresh sweet Mediterranean herbs. This wine has wonderful transparency and clarity, with refreshing acidity, snappy lift, and ripe, fine tannins, as well as a stony underpinning and a lovely fresh lift of tomato leaf on the finish. A refreshing and lovely wine, it has much to offer if drinking over the next 6-8 years. Jeb Dunnuck 91
James Suckling writes: Notes of cooked strawberries, red licorice, blood orange and cedar. Medium body. Bright and racy with crunchy acidity and a flavorful finish. - James Suckling 92
