Los Bermejos Rosé — Lanzarote, Canary Islands, Spain 2025
Bodegas Los Bermejos is one of Lanzarote's most celebrated producers — farming indigenous varieties on one of the world's most extraordinary and otherworldly wine landscapes. Lanzarote is a volcanic island in the Atlantic Ocean off the northwest coast of Africa, where centuries of eruptions have blanketed the terrain in black lapilli — a porous volcanic ash that retains moisture and insulates the vines from the island's fierce winds and intense sun. The vines are planted in individual pits called “zanjas,” hand-dug into the volcanic rock, each one a small crater sheltering a single vine from the relentless Atlantic trade winds. It is one of the most labor-intensive and visually dramatic forms of viticulture on earth — and the results are wines of singular character, mineral intensity, and volcanic energy found nowhere else in the world. Los Bermejos farms Listán Negro — the island's signature indigenous red variety — to produce this rosé of genuine distinction and terroir expression.
The color is vivid and inviting. The nose is succulent and expressive: strawberry, fresh herbs, orange oil, and mint, with a smoky, tangy undercurrent from the black volcanic soil that gives the wine its unmistakable sense of place. On the palate, it is fresh and mineral — rock, citrus, and wild herbs framing the bright red fruit, with a clean, saline finish that speaks of Atlantic winds and volcanic stone. A rosé unlike any other.
"100% Listán Negro from the island of Lanzarote. Black volcanic soil gives a type of expression one might sense with smoke and tangy fruit. Succulent and strawberry infested; herbs, orange oil, mint and rock."
