90 Points Jeb Dunnuck: A youthful medium red hue, the 2023 Rosso Di Montalcino is expressive and ripe out of the gate, with notes of baked red cherries, leather, and balsamic herbs. Plush and inviting, the palate is ripe with pliant tannins and medium to full-bodied richness. It's delightful now and will drink well over the coming 5-6 years.
Produced by the historic Pian delle Vigne estate of the legendary Antinori family, this Rosso di Montalcino showcases the purity and elegance of 100% Sangiovese grown in the rolling hills surrounding Montalcino in Tuscany.
The 2023 vintage opens with inviting aromas of fresh cherry, wild strawberry, and red plum, layered with hints of violet, Mediterranean herbs, and a touch of sweet spice. On the palate, it is bright, silky, and beautifully balanced, with lively acidity and refined tannins supporting flavors of ripe red berries, subtle earth, and gentle oak spice. The finish is fresh and persistent, making this Rosso both approachable in its youth and a classic expression of Sangiovese from Montalcino.
Often considered the younger, more vibrant counterpart to Brunello, Pian delle Vigne Rosso di Montalcino offers exceptional versatility at the table. Enjoy it with pasta with tomato sauce, roasted poultry, grilled meats, or aged cheeses.
