Women in Wine | Arianna Occhipinti, Sicily, Italy

Arianna Occhipinti is a renowned Sicilian winemaker celebrated for her commitment to natural and biodynamic viticulture. Her winery, Azienda Agricola Arianna Occhipinti, is located in Vittoria, Sicily, where she cultivates indigenous grape varieties such as Nero d'Avola and Frappato.

Occhipinti's journey into winemaking began at 16 when she assisted her uncle, Giusto Occhipinti of COS Winery, at Vinitaly, Italy's premier wine expo. This experience ignited her passion for viticulture, leading her to study enology at the University of Milan. Dissatisfied with conventional methods, she returned to Sicily to explore natural winemaking techniques.

Her wines, particularly the SP68 Rosso—a blend of Frappato and Nero d'Avola—are acclaimed for their authenticity and expression of Sicily's terroir. The name "SP68" refers to the Strada Provinciale 68, a historic wine route near her vineyard.
