How Cold Should I Make That Bottle?
Share
An often forgotten element of enjoying wines is the service temperature. This is the temperature the wine is served. Red wines are often served at room temperature, which is often 70 to 75º, too warm in our opinion. White and sparkling wines are often served too cold. Most refrigerators are between 36 to 40ºF, way too cold for any wine.
Use our simple 1-2 rule.
ONE - Red: We recommend putting almost all red wine in the refrigerator for about 20 to 30 minutes. This long enough to make the wine cool not cold, about cellar temperature or slightly warmer.
TWO - White and Sparkling: We recommend putting most white and sparkling wines in the refrigerator for about 2 hours. This should chill the wine to around 55ºF, about the coldest a wine should be served. Longer than 2 hours or below 55ºF is a problem. If the wine gets too cold it “shuts down” and the bouquet and flavors will be subdued and muted.
