Anne Krebiehl of Vinous writes 89 Points | The 2023 Grüner Veltliner Kremser Freiheit is from three single sites, Weinzierlberg, Holzgasse and Frechau, all on deep loess, made in stainless steel. The lovely freshness of green fruits is shy on the nose. The palate is light and crunchy but has enticing edges of white pepper on its light, bright, vivid body. (Bone-dry).
Wine Spectator 89 Points | There's floral charm in this clean, pure version, which is filled out with apple blossom, melon and quince flavors. Offers good minerality and herbal vibrancy, with some spice elements on the snappy finish. Drink now.
Winemaker Description
Martin Nigl's Freheit Gruner Veltliner is sourced from four different vineyards in the hills above the city of Krems. The soils here are primarily löss and the temperature is moderated by its steep elevation. The name ‘Freiheit’ means “freedom” and is believed to be some of the first privately owned vineyard land in the valley not controlled by the Church or a feudal estate. Fermentation and élevage occur in stainless steel and is bottled at night when the cellars of the coolest has Martin feels this helps preserve the freshness of the wines. Winemaker Description.

(Vintage 2022) 91 Points James Suckling | Fresh and floral jasmine and white tea aromas here, with some fennel, salted yellow plums and celery, too. Crisp and tasty on the palate, medium-bodied, with a pleasantly herbal and yellow fruited finish.
(Vintage 2022) 91 Points Wine Enthusiast | This offers an aromatic, verbena note upfront mixed with honeysuckle and fresh flavors of gooseberry, cardamom and orange peel. It is seductively vivacious, showing good focus on the mouthwatering finish.
