Josh Raynolds writes: (made with 50 percent whole clusters) Bright purple. A complex, intensely perfumed bouquet of fresh black and blue fruit, candied licorice and Asian spice scents develops a sexy floral note as the wine opens up. Vibrant and appealingly sweet on the palate, offering intense, smoke-tinged black currant, boysenberry, floral pastille and spicecake flavors energized by a refreshing snap of juicy acidity. Blends richness and vivacity with a deft hand and finishes extremely long and gently tannic, leaving a sappy blue fruit note behind. Drinking 2023 - 2032. - Vinous 96

James Suckling writes: The most brooding nose of the trio of La La's with dark coal smoky aromas and dark stones, graphite and cocoa powder. Fruits are in the very dark plum and blackberry spectrum but flavors are held in a more savory mode with assertive, powerful clean-cut tannins that hold endless length. Truly a masterpiece. Joe Czerwinski writes: The 2013 Cote Rotie La Mouline shows none of the vintage’s sometimes dry tannins. It offers crisp black fruit—plums and blackberries—underscored by hints of pencil shavings, espresso and grilled meat. Suave and long, it should drink well for a couple of decades. James Molesworth writes: Very ripe, with layers of fig, boysenberry and plum compote forming the core, inlaid liberally with licorice snap, roasted apple wood and Turkish coffee notes. Jeb Dunnuck writes: One of the more restrained and fresh vintages of this cuvée out there, the 2013 Côte Rôtie La Mouline still has a classic Mouline floral, gamey, and spicy bouquet to go with medium to full-bodied richness and depth on the palate. With good concentration, notable complexity, sweet tannin, and plenty of length, it needs 3-4 years of bottle age and will keep for 15+. Drinking 2022 - 2037 - Jeb Dunnuck 94+

Richard Hemming MW writes: Hickory smoke, violets, tobacco, black-cherry fruit, pepper and a touch of stemmy herbal character. Red black with deep dark tints. Small black fruits, liquorice and roasted notes and oriental spices. Powerful and intense aromas. Powerful attack with important tannic structure. Rich and concentrated. Fully expressive of the terroir. Great ageing potential, structured and concentrated with a rare intensity of flavour and colour.

Wine Spectator 92 Points | Intense, with a serious iron spine that drives from start to finish, while the core of dark currant, bitter plum and black cherry fruit is held in reserve. The grippy and mineral-driven finish sports loads of tobacco, warm iron and dark earth notes, while displaying terrific cut and drive. A formidable wine. Best from 2020 through 2040. 1,000 cases made.  –JM

Wine Advocate  | Another massive, thick and unctuously textured beauty is the 2012 Cote Rotie la Landonne. Always the most structured and tannic of the three single vineyard releases, in this case, the wine’s wealth of fruit and texture almost completely hide its tannic grip and underlying structure. Offering sensational notes of cassis, caramelized meats, spice box and crushed rocks, this beauty hits the palate with full-bodied richness, masses of perfectly ripe tannin and a surprisingly sexy, hard to resist profile. Nevertheless, give it 7-8 years in the cellar and enjoy this beauty through 2047. One of the highlight tastings during my two weeks spent working in the northern Rhône was with Philippe and Marcel Guigal, who in this critic’s opinion, consistently fashion some of the greatest wines in the world... The 2012s should be bottled next year and this is another terrific vintage at this estate, which shouldn’t be a shock to anyone who follows the estate. (JD)   (12/2015)

Wine Advocate 92 Points | Scents of pencil shavings join heady cassis notes on the nose of Guigal's 2019 Saint-Joseph Lieu-Dit Saint-Joseph, sourced from the former estates of Grippat and de Vallouit. Aged half in new oak and half in second-fill barrels, it's full-bodied, rich and ripe, with a velvety mouthfeel and a lingering finish. (2019).

Jeb Dunnuck 95 Points | The 2019 Saint Joseph Lieu-Dit Saint Joseph ratchets everything up a notch and has an almost flamboyant style in its sunny red and black fruits, spice, smoked game and flowery incense aromas and flavors. It's full-bodied, has sweet tannins, a round, sexy profile, and a great finish. The oak here is also perfectly integrated. Drink this beauty any time over the coming 10-15 years. (2019).
