Glowing purple, possibly more discreet first nose, certainly refined. This has an extra dimension of finesse, a little more power, younger oak too, greater length maybe but doesn’t have quite the same impact as the first Volnay did because now I am becoming attuned to the brilliance of the vintage here.

Top value!Vinous 90 points Matured in around 10% new oak, the 2020 Volnay "Vendange Sélectionée" is more floral than the regular cuvée with scents of dried rose petals infusing the red berry fruit, a touch of wet limestone underneath. The palate is medium-bodied with a supple opening, fine acidity, gentle grip with a little more substance on the strict finish. Very fine, but it needs 3-5 years in bottle.
