Winemaker Description
Viñedo Viejo is a single-parcel wine made from 100% Tempranillo grapes harvested from vines planted in 1950, located at 435 meters on a hillside that leads down to the Ebro River. These old bush-trained vines have deep roots and thick trunks, which store reserves for better budding and balanced growth. Each mature vine puts its full effort into producing small berries with intense color, aroma, and flavor, resulting in a wine of exceptional depth and complexity.
After meticulous selection and destemming, the grapes were fermented in stainless steel tanks for 10 days, with no post-fermentation maceration. A total of 3100 liters were produced, which were aged for 21 months in new French oak barrels of 225 liters, without racking, allowing the wine to reach its full potential. On February 1, 2021, a limited run of 3822 bottles was produced, making this wine a true rarity.
With an intense ruby-red color and deep garnet hues, Viñedo Viejo delights the nose with aromas of fresh black fruit, like black cherry, along with balsamic notes and a touch of cocoa and coffee. On the palate, it is long and intense, with polished, well-rounded tannins, leaving a lingering memory of the aromas from the nose.
This wine pairs beautifully with red meats, game dishes, and hearty stews. Its depth and complexity make it the perfect choice for special occasions.
Viñedo Viejo embodies the very essence of San Vicente de la Sonsierra’s winemaking tradition, captured in every bottle.
