"Andrea Franchetti, one of the most beloved figures in Italian wine, passed away at the end of 2021 at 72 years old. Andrea created Tenuta di Trinoro, an iconic estate in Tuscany and was an Etna trailblazer. He founded Passopisciaro (now Vini Franchetti) on the Sicilian volcano. His son Benjamin Franchetti continues in his footsteps with winemakers Lorenzo Fornaini and Cologero Portanesse. Carlo Franchetti makes Pinot Noir under the name Sancaba in San Casciano dei Bagni." Moncia Larner
Monica Larner writes: The 2021 Le Cupole (a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot) is the well-priced entry-level red from one of the most prolific and creative wine estates in Tuscany. Le Cupole is velvety and full-bodied with dark fruit, dried cherry and sweet earth or terracotta. This is an incredible value. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, and the wine is matured in neutral barrique and cement. Drinking 2023 - 2035 - Robert Parker Wine Advocate 94
James Suckling writes: Currants and flowers with cinnamon and some blood oranges. It’s medium-bodied with fine tannins and a lovely, supple finish. Delicious now. A blend of merlot, cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon with a bit of petit verdot. Drink or hold. - James Suckling 93
Bruce Sanderson writes; A round, fleshy red introduced by a blast of pure blackberry and black cherry fruit. Gains depth from mineral, earth and spice notes, with a base of refined tannins adding support. Long and balanced. Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2027. - Wine Spectator 93
Antonio Galloni writes: The 2021 Le Cupole is terrific. Bold, punchy and super-expressive, the 2021 offers up an exciting mélange of dark-toned fruit, leather, grilled herbs, lavender and bittersweet chocolate. Trinoro's entry-level Cupole delivers tons of intensity and richness a very affordable tariff, which is sure to make it a crowd pleaser. Drinking 2023 -2029 - Vinous 92

Critics Notes
Monica Larner writes: The Tenuta di Trinoro 2020 Le Cupole (with the bright pink label) offers terrific value. You get a glassful of sunny Tuscany and rich intensity at an affordable price. The wine is packed tight with black fruit, spice and leather, making for a classic bouquet, especially for a warm corner of Tuscany, off the beaten track, in Sarteano. The blend is 49% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Franc, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot. Drinking 2023 -2033 - Robert Parker Wine Advocate 93
Antonio Galloni writes: The 2020 Le Cupole is a rich, flavorful wine. Super-ripe dark cherry, plum, espresso, incense and chocolate are front and center. There's not much subtlety here, but then again I am not sure that is the goal, either. This flamboyant red will be a joy to drink right out of the gate. Drinking 2022 - 2030 - Vinous 92
Bruce Sanderson writes: Features fine depth and sappy plum, blackberry and licorice flavors, with spice and mineral accents. Shows a saline element that underlines it all from start through the mouthwatering finish. Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2032. - Wine Spectator 93
