E. Guigal Ermitage Ex-Voto Red 2006 750ml
The red comes from Bessards (30%), Greffieux (30%), L’Hermite (20%), and Murets (20%), and spends a full 42 months in new casks and is bottled without fining or filtration. These cuvées will be produced only in exceptional vintages (no 2002 or 2004 was made). This represents the pinnacle of the appellation, with exceptional concentration and great potential longevity.
Wine Spectator 94 points A very dense, slightly brawny version, delivering a mix of crushed currant and warm fig sauce aromas and flavors that are liberally framed with bittersweet cocoa and roasted espresso notes. The dark, anise- and graphite-filled finish needs some time to settle into itself. Best from 2011 through 2021. 725 cases made. –JMWine Advocate 95 points More classic in style than the '07, with lots of iodine, powdered rock, beef blood, leather and meaty dark fruits, the 2006 Hermitage Ex Voto is full-bodied, rich, structured and powerful, with high tannin and notable freshness. It's still youthful, and while this vintage generally produced charming, fruit-loaded wine, this has a serious, slightly masculine feel.
